2024 DSA Non-Endorsement of Kamala Harris

Date: 2024 (precise date not in corpus) | Type: endorsement (withheld)

What Happened

The DSA National Political Committee voted not to endorse Kamala Harris for president, echoing its 2016 non-endorsement of Hillary Clinton. megan-romer, who voted for the statement as an NPC member, framed it as credibility protection: “We felt that our credibility really stood on saying, ‘We are socialists. We are offering you a real alternative.’” She personally practiced “harm reduction” voting in prior cycles.

In the same period, the NPC withdrew its endorsement of alexandria-ocasio-cortez over her vote on a House antisemitism resolution; her local chapter dissented.

Why It Matters

The clearest expression of the DSA’s inside-outside posture: run on the Democratic line, refuse the Democratic ticket. Fuel for both readings — principled independence (B) or party-within-a-party sabotage (A) in is-the-dsa-taking-over-the-democratic-party. The AOC withdrawal shows red lines bind stars and that national/chapter splits are real.
